“My Favorite Thunderstorm” is an epic solo guitar piece that has evolved over the years into one of the most requested and fan-favorite songs at my live shows.
The song relies heavily on an over-the-neck two-handed tapping technique inspired by one of my biggest influences, Preston Reed. It is a very guitar-oriented composition - fun to play, exciting to learn, and rewarding once it starts to feel natural under your fingers.
This ultimate version of the song features “My New Favorite Riff” in the middle section, which uses some of my detuning systems - Keith Banjo Detuners and Hipshot FreeRange Xtenders at the bridge. If you don’t have those systems, I encourage you to find your own way of adapting those sections for a normal guitar!
For the drum solos, I use some of my Schlagwerk percussive add-ons, such as the FrameBuzz and SamJam, though these effects can be replaced with traditional wooden guitar percussion.
This is one of the most detailed tablatures I’ve ever made. Every fingering, transition, and percussive sound is carefully explained, and you can also refer to live videos of me performing the piece to follow the process visually.
The tablature is provided in Guitar Pro 7 and PDF formats, and the package also includes the album version of the track in WAV format.
