“My Favorite Rain” is a looping intro to the solo guitar piece “Thunderstorm”, and normally I perform both together as one continuous symphonic progressive metal song.
“Rain” is built around live-looping technology. You don’t have to modify your guitar for this song, but a loop pedal is essential to layer the parts in real time. I also suggest using such effects as whammy, reverb, delay, and distortion to recreate the full sound of the album version.
Utilizing the same tuning as “Thunderstorm”, “Rain” introduces the main chord progressions and melodies of the full piece, gradually building them through layered loops.
While the album version was recorded in separate tracks for smoother listening experience, the live version requires more time to construct each layer, and this process is explained in this tablature, including timing, pedal use, and all transitions.
